First fundraiser for Megan Bell tops £1,600 within an hour

A charity set up in the name of teenager Megan Bell who died at a music festival has held its first official fundraiser.

Megan’s Rainbow Support Group has been launched to fund counselling to families and financial support to those who have lost a child.

The 17-year-old from Seaham, who was a former student at St Anthony’s Catholic Girls’ Academy, died last July at T in the Park.

Her grandmother Jenny Bell, other family members and friends have set up the organisation in her name.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service hosted a coffee morning raffle, tombola and cake sale.

Organiser Julia Errington, from the service’s training centre: “I would like to thank everyone involved in this event. Staff and visitors have been incredibly generous and raised £1,610 within an hour.”
