THE first ballot boxes have already been rushed onto the counting floor as Sunderland guns to be the first seat to declare once more.
The black boxes were at the Sunderland Tennis Centre within two minutes of the polls closing at 10am as Wearside’s super-slick team sprang into action.
The city has been the first to declare a result in the last five General Elections, bringing a massive amount of media attention to Wearside – said to be worth millions in free publicity.
Bridget Phillipson was elected to represent Labour for Houghton and Sunderland South at 10.52pm in 2010.
Predictions are she will comfortably hold her seat and as comfortably as Sunderland holds its record for being first to declare.
