It happened at the site off Hollin Hill Road just after 8pm on Monday.

One crew from Washington fire station rushed to the scene.

The area has seven different allotments.

Watch manager Gary Carabine told the Echo: "The site was about 25% fire damaged.

"It looks like a log-burning stove was left on and that's how the fire started.

"We were there for about an hour putting it on.

"Thankfully, no-one was hurt."
