Firefighters called to tackle blaze at disused industrial unit in Sunderland
Sixteen firefighters and four fire appliances were called to tackle a blaze in a former factory on the Pallion Industrial Estate in Sunderland tonight.
The call to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service was made at 5.41pm today, Friday, January 10, after reports of a fire to a disused unit just off European Way.
The fire was brought under control and the service said no additional firefighters, appliances or other equipment were required at the incident.
At around 7.30pm, the service issued an update and said: “Fire crews are now dampening down and making the area safe at the Pallion fire.
“There are still four firefighting pumps with 16 firefighters are in attendance.
“This is believed to be a disused commercial building approximately 100m x 50m in Sunderland.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
