Fire crews spent hours tackling a blaze at a derelict building in Peterlee.
Five pumps were joined at the scene at Essington Way by an aerial ladder platform at 10pm last night after being alerted to the fire by a string of calls from the public.
The Environmental Protection Unit and an Incident Command Support Unit were also drafted in to battle the fire.
Crews used three jets to extinguish the fire which had swept through the single storey building and was well alight at the time of their arrival.
The fire service said their response had been scaled down by 2am, with two pumps and the aerial ladder platform still in use.
