Firefighters were called to rescue a dog which had fallen down a cliff in Sunderland.

Specialist rope rescue crews from South Shields and Hebburn and one engine from Sunderland Central were called at 12.37pm to help the dog which had fallen down the cliff side opposite Seaham Road in Ryhope.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have now confirmed that the dog has been rescued and returned to its owner uninjured.

Crews have now left the scene.
