Fire breaks out at Rolls Royce factory in Sunderland
Fire has broken out at the Rolls Royce plant in Sunderland this morning.
Crews from Sunderland Central and Marley Park stations were called out to the Pallion factory following reports of a blaze.
It has now been extinguished by officers who remained on site for a couple of hours to remove water at the premises.
The blaze started in an office due to an electrical fault shortly after 9am.
Smoke spread to a number of other offices.
Watch manager Les Thompson, of Sunderland Central, said: “Thankfully the fire didn’t spread because it was contained by the sprinkler system, but there has been a lot of water damage.
“Most of the work from us was as part of a salvage operation.
“No-one was in the office because it’s the weekend and the two members of personnel who were on the shop floor had evacuated before we got there.”
