SEVERAL tonnes of wood were lost in a fire sparked by a burner during the early hours of today.

Firefighters from Rainton Bridge were called to Philadelphia Yard at 6.30am today after security guards spotted the blaze on their camera system.

Crew members wore breathing apparatus as they used hose reels and fans to put out the fire.

A section of the seasoned logs which had been stored in the metal shed were lost due to heat and smoke, but a large amount of the hundreds of tonnes stacked up in the container were saved.

The fire, within what was formerly the NCB yard, was started by a log burner which had accidently been left on overnight.
