Fire breaks out after dog knocks petrol can onto barbecue

This was the aftermath of a blaze which started when a container filled with petrol was knocked over by a dog.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew of firefighters from its Rainton Bridge station to tackle the blaze, which started in a back garden after the pet spilt the fuel close to the grill.

The heat, smoke and flames left the garden and its fencing badly damaged, with the back of the semi-detached house after left damaged by the heat.

A spokesperson for the service said: “If you're having a bank holiday barbecue, ensure the barbecue is never unattended, is on a flat site, away from a shed, trees or shrubs
