A SECTION of a city museum remained closed after a fire.

The booking office at Monkwearmouth Station Museum in North Bridge Street, has been closed for repair after fire broke out yesterday.

Firefighters from Sunderland Central managed to contain the fire to a plant room after an electrical fault with a central heating pump.

They were called to the fire on the first floor at 5.45am yesterday. A spokesman from the museum said: “There has been some damage to the plant room and to the booking office below it on the ground floor.

“The booking office will remain closed for repair but the rest of the museum will be open as usual where people can enjoy the Your Country Needs You World War One recruitment poster exhibition and more.”
