WHITBURN residents can spring into action this week – to help a culture bid get on song.
Nine weeks of singing sessions get under way at Whitburn Village Church Hall on Friday.
The get-together is free to join and all are welcome to go along – whether you are a seasoned singer or a newcomer.
The event is part of the Cultural Spring, a three-year Arts Council-funded project aiming to boost participation in the arts throughout South Tyneside.
A whole host of workshops are being held in 2015, from glass making and ceramics to singing and learning a new instrument, with the vast majority free to attend.
Fiona Mckeown, deputy director for the Cultural Spring, said: “Whether you’re wanting to develop a new skill, make some new friends or just make some time to do something you enjoy, we hope people will find something in our new programme.
“Beginners are always very welcome and we encourage people to bring a friend, family member or a neighbour.
The singing sessions start at 7pm on Friday at Whitburn Village Church Hall, in Church Lane, Whitburn, running until 8.30pm.

The singing sessions, run by Music in the Minster, were previously held from October to December 2014 and proved a big hit.
