FAMILES can find out more about the history of County Durham at a special event.

Durham County Record Office is holding its fifth annual Family Fun Day at County Hall, where visitors will be given the chance to write with quills, dress up in Tudor costumes and make seals like those found on medieval documents.

Activities are suitable for children aged five and over who will also get a chance to play with the types of toys children played with in the past. Dawn Layland, education and outreach archivist with Durham County Council, said: “It’s a great chance to find out about local history in a way that’s both educational and fun.”

The event takes place on Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm and is free.

Children attending will be given the chance to enter into a competition with the prize of a £10 book voucher.
