Films are great for all

I was interested in Mary Keel's letter (January 5) about cartoon films being for children and not adults.

Recently I had a chat with a friend about the greatest films we’d ever seen. One I nominated was Pinocchio, Walt Disney’s masterpiece, which has technical brilliance that has never been surpassed. Surely, one of the great artistic works of the 20th century.

My friend said I was an idiot (that’s what friends call me).

He told me cartoons are only meant for children. Adults enjoying cartoons clearly have serious problems. Entertainment for men is all about guns, car chases and explosions.

Didn’t you shout out when Snow White eats the poisoned apple? Didn’t you cry when Bambi’s mother is shot?
