A FIGHTER who took on a battle to fight the flab has shed a staggering nine stones in just over a year.
Christopher Knox weighed in at 22.5 stone when he first joined Scott Ramsey’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class.
Now, after 16 months of training and encouragement from his coaches, the 20-year-old is sporting a much leaner look and has also increased his fitness levels.
He is even gearing up to take part in his first competition in October.
Christopher, of Whitburn, said: “I saw a flyer for the club and went along. I was really nervous because I was quite big and wasn’t sure if it would make a difference.
“It was a struggle at first and it wasn’t easy, but with the support I got from the coaches and the other students, I carried on.
“I feel totally different now. I have more confidence and I feel happier.
“I’ve made some great friends and I’m looking forward to taking part in my first competition.
“Shaun Scott, one of the coaches, really went the extra mile to help me as he used to be overweight and showed me that it can be done. I’d just like to say a heartfelt thank-you to the lads. Without their support I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have.”
Shaun said: “Christopher worked really hard and as well as training, we also had to tweak his bad eating habits to help him to cut out his junk food and late night bingeing.
“It’s been amazing to watch the transformation.”
Scott added: “Christopher came to the class wanting to get fit.
“After gradually building his cardiovascular levels, we then pushed him, along with all the students, a little harder, not only honing their BJJ skills but also building their fitness levels.”
