MUSCLY mum Lesley Haswell has braved the ocean waves to raise more than £800 for charity.

The 44-year-old bodybuilder had planned to take part in the Great North Swim for Macmillan Cancer Support after losing friends to the disease.

But bad weather caused the event, due to take place on Windermere, in the Lake District, to be cancelled.

Keen to complete her challenge, Lesley swam a mile in the North Sea with members of the Sun City Triathlon team instead.

Lesley, a mum of two, from Fulwell, said: “I was gutted when the event was called off, but I was determined to honour the donations people had made.

“The swim went really well and I want to thank everyone who’s donated. Money is still coming.”

After her charity feat, Lesley is throwing herself into training at Fitness 2000 in Roker for forthcoming qualifying rounds for BF National Federation and Natural Physique Association’s bodybuilding contests.
