Fatal crash inquest due to open

INQUESTS were due to open today into the deaths of a baby, her mother and her great-grandfather who died in a crash with a lorry.

Destiny Reed, 14 months old, Natalie Simpson, 18, from Britannia Terrace, and Robert Reed, 75, from St Michael’s, both Houghton, died when their Renault Megane Scenic collided with the truck on the B1404 Seaham to Houghton Road on Wednesday, April 25.

The inquests were being held at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court.

Mr Reed’s wife, Margaret, 74, remains in hospital where she is being treated for injuries she sustained in the crash.

A 42-year-old Hetton man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
