MUSIC fans have lined the streets to get their hands on “bargain” tickets to see Brit Award Winning act Franz Ferdinand.

Scores of people queued outside of Sunderland band Frankie & The Heartstrings’ creative hub Pop Recs Ltd, in Fawcett Street, this morning to claim their place at the intimate gig.

The band, whose lead singer Alex Kapranos grew up in Sunderland and South Shields before moving to Glasgow and launching a music career, will play a 30-minute live semi-acoustic set next month.

Alistair Grant, of Ryhope, who got his £5 tickets to see the indie group on Thursday, March 27, said the gig will be something special.

“I’ve never been to a gig here before,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to it.

“It looks really good because it’s really compact and you’re right next to the band.”

The 40-year-old, who will return to Pop Recs Ltd to see North East band Maximo Park later next month, added.

“I heard about the Franz Ferdinand gig because I was asking about Maximo Park.

“I think they will both be good because the venue is so small.”

Sunderland University student Antonia Barraclough, 20, said she is hoping for good things from the band, whose fourth studio album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, reached the Top 10 in the UK album chart last year.

“I’ve loved Franz Ferdinand for ages,” she said. “I’ve been to a few gigs here so I know it will be really, really good.

“The price of the tickets is a bargain.

“I follow Frankie & The Heartstrings of Facebook and Twitter, and I think it’s brilliant what they do.”

General tickets for the gig cost £5 and a limited number will be made available to people who can prove they are in receipt of benefits for £2.50.

Franz Ferdinand will take to the stage at 5.30pm on Thursday, March 27.

Tickets are now sold out for today. A small number of tickets will go on sale tomorrow as many Wearsiders are still returning from Wembley.

All tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis from the store.
