Family pays tribute to '˜wonderful' son and brother Stuart Price

A heartbroken mum says the death of her son will leave a huge hole in the lives of everyone he knew.

Stuart Price, 24, died instantly after being involved in a collision with a black Jaguar car while out cycling on Sunday morning.

Since then, hundreds of tributes have been pouring in and scores of flowers and Sunderland shirts have been left at the scene of the tragedy, in Colliery Lane, near Easington Lane.

His devastated mum, Deborah Dobie, 52, said the outpouring of love for Murton lad Stuart is giving her comfort.

The npower worker said: “I cannot put into words how wonderful everyone has been and I can’t express how much it means.

“I never realised what a tight-knit community Murton is, everyone has been fantastic. It is lovely to know Stuart was so well loved, by so many people.

“He has really touched so many people’s hearts and he will be leaving a huge hole.”

Deborah said Stuart, who worked in the medical records department at Sunderland Royal Hospital, lived for his family, friends and his beloved Sunderland AFC.

She said: “He was a real home bird, he didn’t even like going on holiday.

“He lived his life to the full. He was a character and had a cheeky smile. His friends called him Chewy Stuey.”

Stepdad John Dobie, said every Saturday night Stuart, a former Easington Academy student, would bring his friends back from the pub and hold a party in the family conservatory.

He said: “He was Murton born and bred, We didn’t realise just how many people knew him.”

The collision happened at 10.25am on Sunday and Stuart’s sister, Jade Price, 28, said as soon as she heard there had been an accident along that road she had a feeling it was her brother, who had borrowed her partner, Lee Bates’ bike.

Jade said: “I just had a horrible feeling it was him, because the times fit when he would be cycling along there to visit his nana.

“The last thing he had said to Lee was that he would be riding on the paths because it’s not the best of roads.”

Stuart leaves his mum and stepdad, his dad, Stuart and stepmum, Marion, sister Jade and her partner, Lee, brother James, 22, and his partner Lauren, his nana, Rita Bond, 77, and six step brothers and sisters.

A spokesman for Sunderland Royal Hospital said: “We were extremely saddened to hear the tragic news of Stuart’s death.

“He was a much valued member of our Medical Records team and the thoughts of all his friends and colleagues at Sunderland Royal Hospital are with his family at this very sad time.”

Family and friends of Stuart will gather tonight at 7pm at football fields at Murton Welfare Park to release red and white balloons in memory of him.

Northumbria Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
