A FAMILY had to flee their home after a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters rushed to Westheath Avenue, Grangetown, after furniture left in the garden was set alight at around 4am today.

Fire quickly spread to the semi-detached house, cracking windows and melting the plastic frames.

The family managed to get out before firefighters arrived.

A spokesman from the fire brigade said: “It’s believed that the furniture may have been left out for council collection and that someone may have set it alight as they walked past.

“It’s lucky that no one was hurt as the flames could have spread into the house.”
