A group of friends from Washington and Sunderland have collectively lost 18st since embarking on a life-changing journey to improve their fitness and heart health.
After meeting at a Weight Watchers programme in Castletown, Lynne Cosgrove, 44, Jaymee Snowdon, 26, Victoria Graham, 38 and Maria Parkin, 42, decided to tackle Heart Research UK’s 16-mile Valleys Walk in the Yorkshire Dales to improve their health.
Lynne, 44, of Barmston, Washington, was shocked to discover how unfit she was while visiting Blackpool in October 2013 with her husband and son.
Activities that they had previously enjoyed doing together were proving difficult for Lynne, with her poor health holding her back.
This gave her the motivation to change her lifestyle and lose five stone.
The four friends’ combined weight loss has drastically improved their quality of life.
They have been inspired to undertake activities such as 5k runs.
In doing so, they have raised more than £500 for various charities, including Heart Research UK.
Heart Research UK’s Yorkshire Valley Walk proved to be the biggest challenge so far for the friends, with Lynne admitting it was the hardest experience of her life.
Lynne said: “It was mentally, physically and emotionally challenging and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to complete the challenge without the support of my friends.”
Weight Watchers leader Sharon Lowes said: “I could not be more proud of their weight loss and their achievements to date.
“When I first met Lynne, she could hardly walk into my meeting, let alone achieve what she did on the Three Peaks Walk.
“So far, they are 18st lighter and together they are turning their dreams into realities.”
After 16 years as a Weight Watchers leader, these four women still make my job the best in the world.”
