FA Council seat for SAFC boss

SUNDERLAND AFC’s chief executive Margaret Byrne has been voted on to the prestigious FA Council.

 The FA Council, which consists of elected representatives from the Premier League, Football League, County FAs and the non-executive board of The Football Association, meets to decide the major policies of the governing body of English football.

 SAFC chairman Ellis Short said: “Margaret’s election as a Premier League representative is a major achievement.

 “I’m delighted that her depth of knowledge of the industry, coupled with her sheer dynamism and commitment have been recognised by her peers.

 “It reinforces just how highly she is regarded within the football world, which is superb for her and, of course, for our football club.”

 A qualified lawyer, Margaret joined SAFC as club secretary in 2006 before becoming legal director and joining the Board in 2009. She was appointed chief executive in the summer of 2011.
