Former Sunderland youngster Jordan Blinco capped a fine debut for the Mariners with a well-taken double as the visitors capitalised on their man advantage.

Shildon took a fifth-minute lead through Mickey Rae, firing past goalkeeper Liam Connell.

However, Shields equalised seven minutes later when Jordan Blinco was fouled in the box, with Shildon captain James Harwood sent off for the offence.

Carl Finnigan sent Nick Liversedge the wrong way from the spot to equalise.

Shields took the lead in the 52nd minute, when a cross came in from the left and Finnigan headed it back to Blinco, who slotted home.

Blinco scored his second with a good, low finish to make it 3-1 on 75 minutes, and he went agonisingly close to a hat-trick, but his header was clawed away magnificently by Liversedge.

Finnigan had the last word as his header from a Wayne Phillips cross looped in the air before nestling in the bottom corner.
