The former Bordeaux winger arrived on Wearside in January on a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club deep in relegation trouble.

But the £9million man made an instant impression and quickly established himself in the first team under Sam Allardyce.

His stunning goal against Chelsea in the penultimate home game of the season against Chelsea an example of the Tunisian international’s technique.

And the set piece specialist insists he hopes to be making an impression at the Stadium of Light for years to come.

“Ever since I arrived I have been made to feel really welcome by everyone,” said Khazri.

“We already had a great squad and a good team but the new signings brought something a little extra.

“I scored against Chelsea and Lamine [Kone] scored against Everton so we have settled in well and we have adapted to the Premier League well, long may that continue.”

Khazri was left stunned by the level of support in the final weeks of the campaign as Sunderland fought their way out of relegation trouble once again.

“I have been really impressed by the support we have received from the fans,” added Khazri, currently enjoying a well-earned rest ahead of pre-season in July.

“They helped us against Chelsea and Everton and it was really nice to share that with them at the end of the Everton game.”
