A GROUP of youngsters are preparing to clean up their area.
The event has been organised by Groundwork youth workers in Easington Lane. The litter pick this weekend will see young people aged eight to 19 clear up the area.
Community Support Officers from Houghton and Hetton Neighbourhood Policing Team will also lend a hand during the tidy up.
Inspector Lisa Musgrove said: “Young people hanging around in the street or causing antisocial behaviour are issues that people continually raise as causing them the most concern.
“While we recognise this can affect someone’s quality of life, it’s important to recognise not all young people are irresponsible.
“This litter pick is a good example of some of the work young people are getting involved with to make a difference in their community and make it a better place for everyone.
“The benefits of the litter pick will be enjoyed by everyone and hopefully it will encourage those that do cause trouble to have more respect for the area and consideration to other residents.”
Youth workers work in the area on Monday and Friday nights from 5pm to 8pm.
