Groundwork North East is running sessions in Elba Park with free education and conservation activities for the whole family.

Claire Hutchinson from Groundwork, who will be running the event, said: “We want as many people as possible to come along and join in.

“Your wildlife needs you.”

Earlier this year the organisation ran a BioBlitz event at the park, which proved hugely popular with visitors and families and it is hoping that this event will have the same impact.

Claire said the aim of the summer sessions at the Houghton park are to help improve the biodiversity at the site.

As well as being open to families, the organisers are also hoping a number of adult volunteers will go along to help with the events.

Claire said: “The project will improve Elba Park for a variety of at-risk plants and animals.

People will be able to take part in tasks such as tidying, clearing, planting and creating habitats for our wildlife friends.”

Sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 5, Wednesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 19, from 11am to 1pm. All tools, materials and plants will be provided.

To find out more or to book a place, contact Claire Hutchinson on 0191 567 2550, email: [email protected].

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all sessions, suitable clothing and footwear must be worn, and visitors are asked to note there are no toilet facilities at Elba Park.
