Bin collection dates in Sunderland over Christmas and New Year

Sunderland families are being reminded that normal waste and recycling collection days will stay the same over Christmas and New Year.

Sunderland City Council has confirmed that there will be no changes to its collection schedule for Christmas.

Despite the festive period, collections will remain the same as normal so members of the public should put their bin out by 7.30am on their usual collection day.

Friday, December 24 – No change.

Monday, December 27 – No change.

Tuesday, December 28 – No change.

Wednesday, December 29 – No change.

Thursday, December 30 – No change.

Friday, December 31 – No change.

Monday, January 3 – No change.

Items you can recycle in your blue bin:

Plastic/glass drinks bottles, cans, glass jars and plastic bottles (all rinsed out)

Aerosols

Dry cardboard, cardboard boxes and food boxes (flatten them first)

Wrapping paper tubes

Chocolate/sweet tins and tubs

Paper, newspapers and magazines goes in the black box (caddy) of your blue bin. Don't forget you can recycle the envelopes from your Christmas cards too

Items which can’t be recycled in your blue bin:

Christmas cards with glitter, bows or ribbons on them

Wrapping paper

Batteries

Polystyrene packaging

Any containers with food waste on them, including take away pizza boxes - this is because of the grease residue that remains on the cardboard

Plastic bags

Real Christmas trees

People are reminded that real Christmas trees can be recycled at one of the Household Waste and Recycling Centres.

Bookings must be made to access either the Beach Street site at Deptford or the Campground Household Waste site in Wrekenton.
