WEARSIDE women are being encouraged to limber up for a good cause.
Entries are open for this year’s Race for Life which returns to Herrington Country Park on May 31.
There’s a route for all abilities, from 5k to 10k.
As well as a chance to get fit and have fun, Race for Life events raise millions of pounds each year for Cancer Research UK.
Last year, 1,813 women took part in Race for Life in Sunderland and raised £80,268.
Anna Thompson, Cancer Research UK’s Sunderland event manager, said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their city and sign up now.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.
“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those January blues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life. With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that Sunderland ladies are up for the challenge.”
Although Race for Life is heading back to the city, the charity’s Pretty Muddy event will not be returning as 2014 entries were lower than expected.
