Emergency services answer two New Year's Day call outs to Wearmouth Bridge

Coastguard officials have asked for people to seek help and support as they answered two calls outs to the Wearmouth Bridge.

The team, along with Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, were called out to the bridge at 8.50pm yesterday in response to an "incident."

It was the second time that day concerns were raised.

While members of its team and Sunderland's RNLI inshore lifeboat was on the way, they were told the situation had been resolved.

A spokesman for Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Unfortunately this time of year isn’t easy for everyone so let’s spare them a thought."

They added a list of numbers to help.

They added in a coastal emergency, people should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
