STUDENTS had a graduation-style ceremony to celebrate the success of their Prince’s Trust course.

The event marked the completion of the 12-week programme by a Prince’s Trust team at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus in Durham.

The Prince’s Trust Programme is a personal development course for 16 to 25-year-olds designed to help develop their confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community.

Students complete a community-based project, work experience, intensive team building and personal development initiatives and a team challenge, which allows them to achieve a recognised qualification in an informal environment.

As part of the community aspect of the project, the team raised their own funds by holding car washes and a raffle. Once they had raised enough funds they purchased paint and materials to renovate the Bowburn Youth Centre.

Greg Corcoran, assistant team leader with Prince’s Trust, said: “Over the last 12 weeks we have seen the team learn new skills, form friendships and give something back to their local community.

“They have created the foundations we hope will enable them to move forward and be the best they can be in whatever they set their minds on.”

Anyone who would like to find out more about how to enrol on the next Prince’s Trust Team programme should contact the Houghall Campus on 375 4710.
