A best-selling author flew in from America to speak to children at a city school.
Children from Northern Saints Primary School in Sunderland welcomed author and comic creator Stephan Pastis, a New York Times best-selling author.
I love coming to the UK to meet all of Timmy’s British fans.Stephan Pastis
Pupils, aged 8 to 11, met Stephan and celebrated the next instalment of his hilarious series Timmy Failure.
Stephan brought the classroom alive with a presentation about his comical character and even did some live drawing.
He talked about how he gets his ideas and gave the class the chance to find out first-hand how a professional author works.
Calum Rowland, Year 6 teacher at Northern Saints, said: “I hope Stephan’s visit will inspire and encourage the children to read for pleasure more often.”
Stephan, who lives in California, said: “I love coming to the UK to meet all of Timmy’s British fans and this is my first time in the North East so I’m especially excited to be working with Seven Stories for the day.”
The visit was part of Seven Stories – National Centre for Children’s Books’ Authors into Schools Programme.
