Teenagers get a sporting chance to help find work

Have your say

A SCHEME is up and running again to help give teenagers a sporting chance to get ahead in the world of work.

The Foundation of Light has restructured its Back on Track programme, which is designed to help 16 to 19-year-olds across Wearside gain qualifications and work experience.

The Back on Track Study Programme will be delivered over 30-plus weeks and is suitable for people who are unemployed, employed on a part-time basis or not in education or training.

The course will improve chances of finding employment or progressing into further education, by developing work and life skills.

Learners will work towards a FA Level 1 Coaching certificate, BTEC Level 2 in Personal Social Development, be involved in a week long residential course, gain valuable work experience, with the option to improve English and Maths up to Level 2.

The course is an extension to the successful Back on Track Level 1 scheme, which ran last year and worked with almost 50. Of those, 60 per cent went on to further education or gaining employment.

The remaining 40 per cent are receiving support and guidance from the Back on Track team regarding future career opportunities. For more information call 551 5185 or email allen.hall@safc.com.
