CHILDREN from across Wearside showed their respects to fallen soldiers.

Schools throughout the city held numerous activities and events to mark Remembrance Day and to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Among them were the children of Hylton Castle Primary School who held their own Service of Remembrance and presented Corporal Derek Lynn with a poppy wreath.

Cpl Lynn, from the Territorial Army Cadets, also spoke to the children about the armed forces.

Students at Academy 360 in Pennywell also paid their own tributes to the fallen.

Based on The Tower of London poppy waterfall, the school’s English, history and art departments made their own poppy river and one of the students wrote a moving poem for the occasion.
