EXCITED nursery pupils couldn’t believe their eyes when a letter from the Queen arrived through the post.

Children at Busy Bees in Ryhope were thrilled when their project about post offices resulted in a reply from her Majesty.

Nursery practitioner Samantha Topham said they were all so excited when they got the letter back with a leaflet telling them all about her love of animals.

Samantha said: “We were doing a topic all about letters and the post and the children were writing and sending letters to their families. One of the children just asked if we could send a letter to the Queen to ask her about her dogs.”

The class penned the letter and posted it with the address, The Queen, Buckingham Palace, London, on the envelope.

Samantha said everyone at the nursery was shocked when they got a reply back from one of the Queen’s ladies in waiting and a leaflet all about the Queen’s love of her animals.

She said: “It was exciting for the children because the letter had the Royal seal on it. The children said it looked posh and the paper was a lot thicker than usual. The lady in waiting said she had read the children’s letter to the Queen who had been very impressed with it.”

The letter is now framed and in pride of place at the nursery.
