BUDDING stage stars across Wearside have the chance to join a successful theatre company.

The Nice Swan Theatre Company, which opened an academy in Sunderland last year, will be holding auditions to find bright new talent.

Nice Swan is one of the biggest acting groups in the region, giving young people the chance to shine in productions such as The Addams Family musical, Hair the musical and Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

The acting and performance academies for children aged three to 18 are continuing to expand due to the high demand, including the one based at Studio JAM premises in Villiers Street, Sunniside,

Jamie Gray, managing director of the company, said: “The theatre company is seen as a stepping stone for youngsters with interests in the theatre industry whether it be singing, dancing, acting or lighting design, costume or stage management.”

He said many of their former members have gone on to join prestigious London theatre schools and performing arts colleges.

Jamie added: “This year sees a number of our strong performers who have been with us for three or four years leave to train in London meaning we are now looking to bring in some new talent to add to our current ensemble of performers.”

Nice Swan is holding auditions on Sunday from 5pm to 7pm at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle.

Those interested in auditioning should ideally have singing and dance skills although do not necessarily have to have had lots of theatre experience.
