YOUNGSTERS dived in for a fun time when they took part in a Sunderland swimming gala.
The event, held at the Hetton Community Pool, was attended by almost 50 pupils from four schools.
Students from East Rainton, Easington Lane, Bernard Gilpin and Dubmire primary schools took part in the event, which was a mixture of competitive swimming and fun games.
All of the children who
participated were given a medal. The winning school team, from Dubmire Primary, was given a trophy.
Tony Mullen, manager of the Hetton centre, said: “Most of the pupils come and use the pool with their schools, so we hold the
gala as an end of term event. It is a competition, with lots of swimming, but we always have fun events at the end.” This year the pool staff came up with a variation of the egg and spoon race, with the youngsters having to swim balancing a ball on a little float.
Tony said: “The youngsters really enjoyed it, they had a lot of fun.”
