BIG-HEARTED youngsters have amazed charity workers with their fund-raising effort.
The children and families from Newbottle Primary Academy managed to raise more than £3,000 for the British Heart Foundation, BHF, in just one day.
Organised by the school council, the whole school dressed in red and took part in a sponsored fun run around the school on behalf of the foundation.
Michael Roper, secretary of the Sunderland branch of the BHF, said he and his wife, Carol, were asked to go along to the school and count up the money and couldn’t believe it when the total reached a staggering £3,388.39.
Michael, said: “It was absolutely phenomenal, it took us two and a half hours just to count it. I have never known a primary school raise so much money in just one day, it must be a record. It is absolutely amazing.”
He said the money will be a massive boost to the charity and wanted to say a massive thank-you to everyone at the school.
