SANTA Claus was joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland for a school’s Christmas celebrations.
Children at Thorney Close Primary School invited the Mayor, Coun Bob Heron, and Mayoress Juliana Heron to join them in their sensory garden to see their Christmas lights and decorations.
Catherine Jones, headteacher at the Torquay Road school, said: “The children are very proud of the lights and decorations which they’ve helped to put up and wanted to invite the Mayor to come along and enjoy them.
“We wanted something to involve the children over the winter months, which is where the idea of the lights came from.
“Everyone has been working really hard to make them even better this Christmas.”
The garden was designed by the children to transform the grassed area at the front of school into somewhere they could go to study nature and enjoy the outdoors.
Coun Heron added: “I’d like to thank the children at the school for inviting us to share in their Christmas celebrations. They have all worked so hard to create this wonderful display.”
