Youngsters were rockin’ their school when they performed their annual summer show.

The students at Belmont Community School took to the stage to perform Grease.

Pupils from Years 7 to 11 donned their rock and roll skirts and leather jackets to recreate the Pink Ladies and T Birds.

With numerous musical numbers including Summer Nights, You’re the One That I Want and Greased Lightning, the students entertained audiences for three evening performances.

Set in an American High School, Rydell High, the story sees the romance between new girl Sandy, who was played by Year 10 student Madeline Pritchard, and leader of the T-Birds gang, Danny Zuko, performed by 14-year-old Travis Ross.

Other young stars included performing arts students Rebecca Young, who played Rizzo, and Sam Fagan as Kenickie.

Jane Cooper, assistant headteacher at the school and director of the show, said all the sets, costumes and props were designed, created and organised by students as part of Belmont School’s project week.

This involved the young people researching the styles of the 1950s and developing designs collaboratively.

Mrs Cooper said: “I was really impressed with the ideas the students came up with and how they collaborated together.

“Our students displayed great teamwork and creativity in realising the final set, costumes and props.

“The performers, designers and student run technical crew were excellent examples of how our students want to strive for excellence.”
