A NEW head has taken over the reins at a sixth-form college.
Jacky Owen has been appointed head of East Durham College’s sixth form, ED6.
Jacky, a former manager and A-level teacher at Sunderland College, joined the Peterlee college this week as it gets into its second year of teaching.
She says she hopes to continue to build up this new area of the college and help students to fulfil their potential in their AS and A-levels.
Jacky said: “I am really looking forward to working with the sixth-form students on their journey to higher education.
“The students are in the unique position of having all of the benefits of a small sixth form, such as personalised teaching, guidance and support from teaching staff, as well as their own facilities such as the sixth-form common room.
“However, they also have access to all of the benefits of a large college, such as the outstanding sports facilities.”
East Durham College principal Suzanne Duncan said: “East Durham College is delighted that Jacky has agreed to join us and head up our A-level and Access to Higher Education provision.
“Jacky brings with her a fantastic wealth of successful curriculum management experience and she can really help take this area of the college to the next level.
“She has huge experience in supporting students to help them achieve higher grades than expected and also help them progress on to higher education courses or into employment.
“With the large number of courses on offer at ED6, and brilliant transport connections through our free bus service, we really believe that ED6 is an excellent choice for students to come and study on A-levels and Access to Higher Education courses.”
