GOOD marks have been given to a Wearside nursery by education bosses.
The Buttons Nursery in Baird Close, Washington, has been rated as good overall by Ofsted inspectors following a recent visit.
In their report, inspectors said: “The quality of teaching is consistently good and some is outstanding. Staff interact skillfully with children to enhance their learning, thus supporting them to make good and better progress.
“The manager places strong emphasis on supporting her staff team. Ongoing support, coaching and training is provided, which enables all staff to further develop their already very good practice and supports children’s achievements over time.
“Children’s welfare and well-being is exceptionally well promoted in the nursery. There is a highly comprehensive awareness of safeguarding issues among the staff, all of whom are suitable to fulfil the requirements of their role and have had appropriate checks carried out.
“Superb partnerships are in place to involve parents and carers in their child’s learning and development, which means that children are very well supported in their learning at home.”
To improve further, the nursery needs to strengthen staff’s understanding of strategies to extend the literacy skills of more able children in order for them to enhance their already very good early writing skills.
It also needs to extend ways to further enhance children’s independence skills in the outdoor environment.
