DURHAM City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods has met with county council leader Simon Henig to a bid to sort out a row over school travel costs.

Pupils starting at Belmont Community School, near Durham, in September will have to pay £96 a term for a bus pass if they live more than three miles away.

“Children’s safety must be our top priority,” said Ms Blackman-Woods.

“I have asked the leader of the council to ascertain how the three miles is measured.

“He has assured me he will look into the policy.”
