College is for whole community

A COLLEGE principal is urging everyone in the community to make the most of it.

New principal at East Durham College, Suzanne Duncan, wants residents to use the facilities the Peterlee-based college has to offer.

She said: “We have been looking very carefully at what impact we have as a college on the community, because we are not just about education.

“We are really passionate about serving the community and there is a lot of value this college can bring to the community.

“People already use our facilities like the theatre, working commercial hair and beauty salons and a restaurant.

“And we have a fantastic sports facility.

“These are not just resources for education, but are open to the community as a whole.”

Suzanne, 41, has joined from Sunderland College where she was vice-principal for five years.

She said one of her priorities for the future is doing something about upgrading the old buildings at Houghall College in Durham City, where student numbers are growing.
