College help for jobless

Have your say

A FREE job club to help unemployed people back into work has been launched.

East Durham College’s Business Academy has joined forces with Ready4Work, previously known as Families First, to help jobless people in the area, with the opening of the new service at the college’s Willerby Grove site in Peterlee.

The club will help jobseekers with the application process, CVs and offer information, advice and guidance.

There is also access to free training courses to help people build up their employment skills.

The Easington district had 3,277 people claiming the Jobseeker’s Allowance in February, which accounts for 6.2 per cent of working age people.

Bosses say the scheme will provide a range of services to help people.

Barbara Archer, business manager at the college, said: “The college staff will be available to assist with job searching and interview techniques.

“Representatives from Ready4Work will also be available to offer support and services to assist local people back into work and support with the transition into employment.”

Andrew Freiman, of Ready4Work, said the organisation was pleased to be working with the college.

The job club is a drop-in service, open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to noon and 1pm until 4pm. To contact the college’s employment team, tel. 518 8390.
