The circus came to town for youngsters at a Washington school.
Pupils at Springwell Village Primary School were thrilled when the big top arrived in their grounds.
Louise Wiegand, headteacher at the Westfield Crescent school, said it was all things circus there for five days as they took part in their annual enrichment week.
She said: “It’s a week where the normal school timetable is put to one side and the arts take priority.
“This year’s theme was decided upon by the children themselves.”
The week got under way with Sunderland-based Circurama teaching the youngsters circus skills such as juggling.
There were also themed costume days, picnics, performances and workshops galore.
A big top, belonging to organisation Let’s Circus, was pitched on the school field and used as an outdoor classroom and performance space.
