A CELEBRATION event was held to praise the achievements of students.

East Durham College held the presentation at the Peterlee campus to hand over the awards of the month.

The 10 award winners for March were: business – Megan Hopper; business & IT – Ashleigh Duff; care – Tom McMahon; childcare – Jennifer Hayes; Derwent – Katie Morland; ED6 – Alexandra Dawson; ED6 – Lisa Stoker; floristry – Danielle Newbery; horticulture – Chris Stoker, and, IT – Tamara Somerville.

Graeme Blench, East Durham College vice-principal, said: “These awards are a very important celebration of excellence, achievement and endeavour by students from across the college. I really enjoy having these awards, as it makes me proud to see the work being done around the college, and it’s brilliant to hear some of the stories behind the students that have been put forward for these awards.

“The awards are not always about academic excellence.

“It may be a combination of attendance, punctuality, supporting other students, succeeding against the odds or simply being the very best you can be.

“These students are just the tip of the iceberg with regards to the hard work and effort that is going on throughout the college.”
