A SCHOOL has been granted academy status after missing out its plans for a £60million science village.

Durham’s Framwellgate School will become a “convertor academy” on December 1, giving more control over finances and teaching.

Headteacher Joan Sjovoll said: “Academy status gives us the responsibility to build on the successes that the school has had, to provide additional and exciting opportunities for our young people and the backing to continue supporting other schools.”
