RYHOPE residents are in for an ‘eggstra’ special treat this Easter.

A bumper day of seasonal activities will take place in the village on Monday.

Participants are asked to meet at St Paul’s Church at 2pm for an Easter egg hunt which will take place around the area. They will then meet back at the church for an Easter bonnet parade, hot cross buns and a prize-giving.

Tickets are available in advance from St Paul’s and Elegance Hair and Beauty, priced £1.

The event is being hosted by Ryhope Community Spirit and any profits made will go towards paying for a Christmas tree to be installed on the green again this year.

Last year’s tree proved a huge success in bringing the community together.

In just a few weeks, residents raised more than £3,000 to pay for a Nordmann Fir tree to be transported from Kielder Forest to the Village Green.

Funds also paid to light the tree, the first on the green for decades, and for public liability insurance so that it could be a focal point for festive activities.

In early December, more than a thousand residents turned out to see the tree lit up and Ryhope Community Spirit was established to keep the good work going.
