Durham U17s convincingly beaten in ECB County Cup opener

Durham Under-17s started their ECB County Cup campaign with a seven-wicket defeat at Derbyshire.

Derbyshire won the toss at at Staveley Miners Welfare CC and inserted Durham. The visitors endured a nightmare start, with Matthew Potts bowled for nought off the first ball of game, leaving a ball which clipped his off-stump.

Tom Hewison came in to score 15 in 30 balls, backed by 12 from Jamie Dass, with Jake Louth (13) and Scott Steel (10) supporting, as Durham were bowled out for just 66 in 30.3 overs.

Matthew Sonczak bagged 3-4 from just 3.3 overs, with Thompson and Ball picking up two wickets apiece.

It took Derbyshire just 24.4 overs to chase Durham’s total down, Hamidullah Qadri leading the way with 27 from 57 balls.

Dan Legge and Liam Burgess both struck, with Burgess forcing a run-out.
