AN award-winning health scheme which helps to combat undernutrition is being rolled out nationally.

The Focus on Undernutrition service at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has led the way nationally on identifying and treating the problem.

It provides support to health care staff and, so far, has trained more than 3,000 healthcare staff and 400 catering staff in more than 75 care homes across the region.

A website has been launched by the service that will allow organisations across the UK to train their own staff.

In the UK, it is estimated that three million people are at risk of being undernourished.

The National Patient Safety Agency said the website will be “a valuable resource”.
