A CITY’S first “evening” market has been hailed a success.
Durham hosted the sale last Thursday from 4pm to 6pm, launching it on the back of recommendations made by retail expert Mary Portas.
Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “The aim of the evening market was to provide a natural link between the close of the daytime economy and the start of the night-time economy.
“Usually the streets are very quiet after 5pm, so it was wonderful to see so many people turn out.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support of both the public and traders alike and we hope to repeat the event again before too long.”
